Minutes of Business Session
The Southern Area Instructors Association (SAIA) autumn meeting was held in the Illinois Room at the City Centre Sheraton. The meeting was hosted by the Indiana Statewide Association of Rural Electric Cooperatives along with Hoosier Energy. The following meeting minutes were recorded by Jason Saunders, Alabama, SAIA Secretary and presented following the meeting agenda:
Call To Order
The meeting was called to order by SAIA Chairman, Glenn Cunningham, Georgia, on September 19, 2011 at 8:00 AM.
Prayer
Chairman Cunningham then asked Doyle Totty, Tennessee, to lead the Invocation.
Pledge
Chairman Cunningham then asked Danny Hayes to led the attendees in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Approval of 2011 SAIA Summer Meeting Minutes
Chairman Cunningham asked for the approval of minutes for the spring meeting held in Kansas City, Missouri. A motion was made by Jim Wright, Georgia, seconded by Danny Hayes, Tennesse, to approve the minutes as presented. Motion carried.
Present/Accept New Members
No new members were voted on.
Next Order of Business
Chairman Cunningham the ask host states to give a report on upcoming SAIA Summer Meetings:
1. 2012 – Gulf Shores, AL, June 5-7, 2012 – Jason Saunders
2. 2013 – Baton Rouge, LA - Dates to be announced – Mike Bergeaux
Old Business
1. Chairman Cunningham then asked for Michael Weltzheimer, Mississippi, to give the names of the retired SAIA members to be recognized. One name was given – Buck Theriot, Louisiana.
2. Doyle Totty, Tennessee, recognized Richard Randall, Kentucky, as the 2012 Ray Pantel award recipient and the formal recognition would be during the NUTSEA awards ceremony.
New Business
There were no new items to discuss at this time.
Election of 2011 SAIA Officers
• Wade Hurst, Oklahoma, was nominated for the position of Chairman. With the nomination made, a motion was made from the floor and seconded to cease any balloting and proceed to install Wade Hurst as the new Chairman. The motion was seconded. A vocal vote was taken, with the “ayes” in favor, none opposed, and the new Chairman was elected.

Jason Saunders, Alabama, was nominated for the position of Vice-Chairman. With the nomination made, Jim Wright, Georgia, made the motion that the balloting cease and to install Jason Saunders as the new Vice-Chairman. Fran Achille, South Carolina, seconded the motion. A vocal vote was taken, with the “ayes” in favor, none opposed, and the new Vice-Chairman was elected.

The Secretary/Treasurer position was now up for selection. The Nominating Committee presented David White, Kentucky. A vocal vote was taken, with the “ayes” in favor, none opposed, and the Secretary/Treasurer was elected.

Gueth Braddock – MS Statewide (nominated by Michael Weltzheimer)
Final Business
• Chairman Glenn Cunningham in his final act as Chairman presented newly elected Chairman Wade Hurst with the Chairman’s Gavel.

Newly installed Chairman Wade Hurst presented the past Chair Award to Glenn Cunningham.
Adjourn
Chairman Wade Hurst called for adjournment of the meeting at 9:00 AM. At this time, Norm McDougle, Oklahoma, made the motion to adjourn the meeting. This was seconded by Danny Hayes, Tennessee, and with the membership in agreement, the meeting concluded and adjourned.
