Kentucky's Electric
Cooperatives Set Annual Meeting Dates
During the spring and summer of 2000, electric cooperative
consumer-owners across Kentucky will have the opportunity to make their
voices heard at the annual membership meetings of the state's 25 consumer-owned, locally controlled electric distribution cooperatives.
At the meetings, members will have the opportunity to exercise their
ownership rights by receiving and acting upon reports from co-op managers and, in some cases, electing corporate directors.
At many of the meetings, electric co-op members may also enjoy free entertainment, view informational displays, and visit with local elected
officials while their children and grandchildren enjoy clowns, face painting, and carnival rides.
"Consumer ownership and control of electric co-ops makes them different
from other types of electric utilities," said Ron Sheets, president of
the Kentucky Association of Electric Cooperatives. "The opportunity to
participate in electric co-op annual meetings is important because it
gives electric co-op members a voice in the running of their electric
utilities."
