Political Action

In support of its mission to provide safe, affordable and reliable electricity to co-op  members across the Commonwealth, the Kentucky Association of Electric Cooperatives works to educate elected officials and policy makers in Frankfort and Washington D.C., advocating for electric cooperative members.

The grassroots actions and support of the more than 1.8 million members of Kentucky’s electric cooperatives send a clear message to elected leaders.

KAEC, East Kentucky Power Cooperative and Big Rivers Electric Corporation have dedicated staff working together in Frankfort each day the General Assembly is in session to make sure elected officials understand the needs of our members and the potential effects of legislation. We work closely with House and Senate members, and Energy Committee Chairmen to forge strong relationships that benefit our members.

We also advocate for co-ops in Washington D.C., educating members of Congress how their actions affect co-op members and employees. Each spring, the KAEC board and legislative staff discuss relevant issues with Kentucky’s congressional delegation. Throughout the year, our government affairs team interacts with members of Congress and their staffs to keep them informed on pertinent issues.
