Report Says to
Jump Off Deregulation Bandwagon 5/03/01
A report by the Consumer Federation of America calls on policymakers to jump OFF the bandwagon of electric utility deregulation.
"Deregulation was sold to the public with bogus promises of 40 percent reductions in electricity bills, now all we hear about is how prices have to rise," says Adam Goldberg, a senior policy analyst at Consumers Union, which issued a news release on the report along with the CFA.
The report includes the "Ten Commandments of Electricity Restructuring," including,
"Don't fix it if it ain't broke," and "Do not deregulate until there is an effectively competitive generation market with adequate supplies."
