Third
Annual Kentucky Touchstone Energy® Motorcycle Charity Poker Run
On Saturday, August 31, 2002, the third annual Touchstone Energy® Motorcycle Charity Poker Run will be held
to benefit the WHAS Crusade for Children. The ride begins after the first
playing card is drawn at the South Kentucky RECC office in Somerset at 12:30 p.m. (Eastern Daylight Savings
Time). The run then proceeds north on HWY 27 to the Inter County Energy office in Danville, Kentucky (approximately 44 miles) for
the second card draw and refreshment break. From there, the group will ride
about 34 miles north on HWY 127 to Blue Grass
Energy's Fox Creek district office for the third draw. Then it will be back on the road via
US 62 west and a 46 mile ride to Salt River Electric
to draw for the fourth time. The last leg of the journey continues
west on US 62 west to Nolin RECC,
about 32 miles, where the last poker draw takes place.
A chance to buy up to two additional poker cards ($1 apiece), the awarding of door prizes, and cash for category
winners will take place at Nolin.
$100 will be paid to the best poker hand, $75 to the second best,
and $50 to the worst and $25 to the second worst hands. $50 will
also be awarded to the motorcycle that came the longest distance,
and another $50 will go to the oldest motorcycle that makes the full
ride.
The entry fee for this event is $10 per bike and rider, $5 per passenger, and $5 for each additional hand purchased. There will be a 50/50 pot as well at $1 per ticket. Many door prizes will be given away
including 31 envelopes with varying amounts of cash. All fees collected will be donated to
the WHAS Crusade for Children and are tax deductible.
The WHAS Crusade for Children benefits children across the state by providing medical assistance to those who are in need, handicap equipped buses for school districts, and other needs such as wheelchairs for kids.
Last year, we raised $3,100 for the WHAS Crusade for Children. We registered 187 bikes and 250 participants representing three states for the run.
If you are interested in our little 156 mile run through some of the most beautiful scenery you can imagine
(half the ride is on nice, wide roads and the other half on twisty back roads), please call
