Electric Co-op Group Awards Scholarships

Kentucky Women in Rural Electrification (WIRE) has chosen three winners to receive $750 college scholarships for 2002-2003.

The winners are:

Cynthia Akers of Prestonsburg, a member of Paintsville-based Big Sandy RECC

Melissa Mae Thompson of Liberty, a member of Campbellsville-based Taylor County RECC
 
Teresa Warber of London, a member of McKee-based Jackson Energy Cooperative

Scholarships were awarded based on academic achievements, extracurricular activities, career goals, recommendations from professors and community leaders, and financial need.

Kentucky WIRE is an organization composed of the wives of rural electric cooperative directors, managers and other key employees. Its goal is to further the public’s understanding and appreciation of the rural electric program.
