Kentucky Labor Secretary Joe Norsworthy presented
Warren Rural Electric Cooperative and its employees the Kentucky Governor’s Safety and Health Award for achieving over 500,000 hours of work without a lost-time accident. “We are proud of the commitment demonstrated by this workgroup in achieving this prestigious award,” he said while speaking to a group of employees and public officials at the award presentation on August 23.
Secretary Norsworthy stated, by comparison, that industries similar to Warren RECC experienced an average of 3.4 lost-time injuries per 100 workers in 2000. On the day of the presentation, the number of hours without a lost-time accident had reached over 590,000 hours. His presentation, at the utility’s Bowling Green area service center, was made on behalf of Governor Paul Patton. Similar presentations were planned at the cooperative’s district offices in Franklin, Leitchfield and Morgantown.
Warren RECC President Gerald Hayes congratulated the utility’s 164 employees for their individual contributions in developing a culture that strives to work safely and to provide a safe environment for not only fellow employees but for the customers they serve each day. He encouraged them to continue to work safely as they go for their next goal of 1-million hours without a lost-time accident.
