Kentucky's
Electric Cooperatives Recognized for Political Action Participation
03/31/2003
During the recent
annual meeting of the organization that represents electric
cooperatives nationwide - the National
Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) - Kentucky was presented with the William F. Matson Democracy Award. The award is in recognition of distinguished service to rural electrification and cooperation through political action.
The award memorializes William F. Matson, the late chief executive officer of the
Pennsylvania Statewide
organization, which represents 14 electric cooperatives in
Pennsylvania and New Jersey. William F. Matson's dedication, tenacity, and vision
were highly regarded by all who knew him.
Memberships in Kentucky’s Action Committee for Rural
Electrification (ACRE) have tripled in the last five years due
to broad-based manager and director support and the addition of many employee memberships throughout Kentucky.
Kentucky Association of Electric
Cooperatives' President Ron Sheets accepted the award in
February on behalf of the electric co-ops in Kentucky at the
national conference in Nashville, TN. This is the first time
Kentucky's electric cooperatives have received this award.
