Electric Co-ops Send Crews to Hurricane Victims
09/17/2004
Help is on the way for hurricane
power-outage victims, in the form of more than 50 power line workers
and 25 utility vehicles being sent by Kentucky consumer-owned electric
cooperatives.
Five Kentucky co-ops have already sent crews to Florida and Alabama
and others are preparing to make relief workers available as specific
cleanup and repair needs become clearer.
Our hearts go out to the victims of this disaster and were
glad Kentuckys electric co-ops can potentially help people
with the enormous job of restoring power to so many homes and businesses,
said Ron Sheets, president of the Kentucky Association of Electric
Cooperatives in Louisville. Working together to keep the electricity
on is what electric co-ops do every day. We know co-ops in those
states would do the same for us, and they have done just that when
Kentucky co-ops have suffered heavy storm damage.
The Kentucky Association of Electric Cooperatives, based in Louisville,
represents 26 local, user-owned, electric cooperatives, which provide
electricity to about one-third of the homes and businesses in the
state, covering parts of 117 of the 120 counties in Kentucky.
