Electric
Co-op Demonstrates Electric Safety at Kentucky PSC
07/12/2004
On
June 28 Nolin RECC
linemen presented a safety demonstration at the Kentucky
Public Service Commission (PSC) in Frankfort. The purpose of
the demonstration was to show the PSC, the Forestry Agency and others
in attendance that electric cooperatives take electrical safety
issues very seriously.
In all, about 65 people were present to watch Nolin linemen Kenny
Brown, Al Akridge and Jerry French demonstrate with the 14-foot,
7,200 volt high voltage safety training trailer how hazardous electricity
can be if not respected and watched carefully. Demonstrations included
ladder and antenna awareness, farm equipment awareness, downed power
line awareness and electrical fire safety.
Electric cooperatives in Kentucky not only give safety demonstrations
with the safety trailer, they also give many demonstrations in schools
in their service areas. These demonstrations are conducted on a
six-foot board, also equipped with 7,200 volts of electricity. Both
demonstrations teach children, and adults, how to play it safe around
electricity and electric power lines.
Weve been wanting to do a demonstration of this kind
with our states regulatory body for some time, says
Nolin RECC CEO Mickey Miller. And, with this type of demonstration,
this is really where electricity meets the road for all to see.
This was the first of its kind electric safety demonstration for
the Public Service Commission.
