Workman Receives Kentucky Electric Cooperatives' Distinguished Service

State Fair Board President and CEO Harold Workman accepted the
2005 Distinguished Rural Kentuckian Award from the Kentucky Association
of Electric Cooperatives.
The award recognizes Workmans achievement of positioning the
Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center and the Kentucky International
Convention Center as top competitors in the convention and trade
show industry.
Since 1986, Workman has directed all agency-produced events for
the Kentucky State Fair Board as Director of Expositions. After
serving four years as Vice President of Expositions and Operations,
Workman was named to his current position as President and CEO in
1993.
Workman began his career in the early 1970s as supervisor of shows
and fairs with the Kentucky Department of Agriculture. In 1974,
he was named General Manager of the North American International
Livestock Exposition, which he developed into the worlds largest
purebred livestock show.
The electric co-ops of Kentucky have presented the Distinguished
Rural Kentuckian Award annually since 1982, to recognize people
who have improved the quality of life in the state. The first recipient
was author Jesse Stuart of Greenup. Other recipients include Cawood
Ledford, Governor A.B. Happy Chandler, KETs O.
Leonard Press, Dr. Louise Caudill, Wendell Berry and Senator Wendell
Ford.
Workman accepted the award at a banquet during the 59th annual meeting
of the Kentucky Association of Electric Cooperatives.
The Kentucky Association of Electric Cooperatives, based in Louisville,
represents 26 local, user-owned, electric cooperatives, which provide
electricity to about one-third of the homes and businesses in the
state, covering parts of 117 of the 120 counties in Kentucky.
