Kentucky's Governor Fletcher Announces a Statewide Energy Policy

On February 7, 2005 Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher announced a new statewide Energy Policy to Kentucky citizens.

The policy encompagsses 54 objectives, covering everything from power production to environmental responsibility. Gov. Fletcher has signed a series of executive orders to implement this policy.

East Kentucky Power, a generation and transmission cooperative providing electricity to 16 distribution cooperatives in eastern Kentucky, was involved by providing feedback to the Governor's office.

"This will be Kentucky's first statewide energy plan," said East Kentucky CEO Roy Palk, "and we support the need for this policy."

The Kentucky Association of Electric Cooperatives - the statewide organizaiton representing all 26 electric cooperatives in the commonwealth - was also part of the Commonwealth Energy Policy Task Force Public Input.
