Jefferson County 4-H recently presented the Kentucky Associatin of Electric Cooperatives with its highest award – the Roy Gibson Corporate Citizen Award. The award is named after the late Roy Gibson, a longtime Jefferson County 4-H leader and donor and founder of the Feeders Supply chain of animal care stores. The award is presented annually to one Jefferson County business that, in the opinion of the Jefferson County 4-H Council, measures up to Gibson’s “generous spirit” and status as a “role model for corporate citizenry.”
According to Jefferson County 4-H Agent Rosie Norris, KAEC was selected for the award because of its long history of support for 4-H programs including its more than 20 years of participation in the Jefferson County 4-H American Private Enterprise System (APES) program that educates area high school students about cooperatives and other businesses and its continuing assistance with the Roy Strange 4-H Golf Scramble that serves as the primary fundraiser for Jefferson County 4-H.
Gibson’s daughter, Pam Gibson Longwell who succeeded her father as president and CEO of Feeders Supply, presented the award at the Jefferson County 4-H Council’s awards dinner on Thursday, October 19, 2006. Dennis Cannon, KAEC’s vice president of member and public relations, accepted the award on behalf of the association. Previous recipients of the award are Feeders Supply (2004) and Stock Yards Bank (2005).
KAEC is the trade association representing all 26 electric cooperatives in Kentucky.
