Electric Co-op Association Elects Board Officers
02/29/2008
Electric co-op representatives from across Kentucky recently chose new officers for the board of the Kentucky Association of Electric Cooperatives, Inc.
During its December, 2007, meeting at the association’s Louisville headquarters, the board, composed of the CEO and one board director from each of Kentucky’s 24 electric distribution co-ops and two electric generation and transmission co-ops, selected new leaders from among its ranks.
Glenn Cox, a farmer from Fredonia and a director on the board of Henderson-based Kenergy electric cooperative, was elected chairman. A nine-year veteran of the KAEC board, Cox served two years as secretary-treasurer and two years as vice-chairman before being elevated to the KAEC chairmanship.
Eston Glover, president and CEO of Hopkinsville-based Pennyrile Electric Cooperative, was elected vice-chairman. For the prior two years, Glover served as KAEC secretary-treasurer. Glover has served on the KAEC board for eight years.
Tommy Hill, an eastern Kentucky businessman and a director on the board of West Liberty-based Licking Valley RECC, was elected secretary-treasurer. Hill has been a KAEC director for three years.
According to the organization’s president, Ron Sheets, the KAEC officers are up to the task of leading the co-op association. “Kentucky’s electric co-ops are locally-owned, not-for-profit organizations that are dedicated to improving the quality of life of their consumer owners,” said Sheets. “Glenn, Eston, and Tommy are firm supporters of the co-op mission and will help keep KAEC on the course of assisting its member co-ops in providing safe, reliable, affordable electricity to their consumer owners.”
In addition to electing its new officers, the KAEC board also expressed its thanks to Gerald Hayes, the outgoing KAEC chairman, for his six years of service as a board officer. Hayes, an eight-year member of the KAEC board, is the president and CEO of Bowling Green-based Warren RECC.
“Gerald provided stable and thoughtful leadership during his two years as chairman,” commented Sheets. “We are deeply appreciative of his service.”
KAEC is the statewide trade association for Kentucky’s 26 local, not-for-profit, consumer-owned electric cooperatives. KAEC’s member co-ops provide electricity to approximately 1.5 million Kentuckians – around 35% of the state’s population – in all or portions of 117 of Kentucky’s 120 counties.
KAEC publishes Kentucky Living magazine – the state’s most widely circulated publication at more than 1.5 million readers each month – on behalf of its member co-ops.
The association also provides numerous communications, public relations, educational, and safety services to its member co-ops.
